Material characterization is the process of measuring and determining physical, mechanical and impact properties, understanding the interaction of materials for millions of possibilities (10x).
Windpact’s proprietary database of characterized open cell and closed cell foam materials as well as additive materials gives us the ability to understand current materials being used and determine if other materials in the industry would create an optimal solution in performance, weight, size, and cost.
This data is used to digitize physical materials and feed material models in ABAQUS, LS-Dyna, and other FE modeling programs. The material characterization process is reconstructed in finite element modeling software to verify and validate the material model, achieving up to 98% accuracy!
